Blessings of Christ from Oklahoma...
It has been a whirlwind here abouts... I met the congregation of Highland Park UMC where I will be serving part of my placement this past Sunday. They are an older medium sized congregation and seem like "interesting" folk. I had one gentleman perfectly describe the job of layperson as a calling to kick young pastors in the shins. :-) I will preach my first sermon Sunday over our boy Isaiah (49.8-16) and then head to annual conference. It looks like in addition to preaching 3-4 times, I will be doing worship planning, reading liturgy, helping with communion, teaching at VBS, doing pastoral care visits, and co-teaching an adult bible study over John. The other half of my time will be spent at the Oklahoma State Wesley Foundation doing recruitme nt at camps, structuring programming for the fall, and teaching a joint bible study between the WF and Highland Park over the practice of Sabbath... Somewhere in there I will get to eat, sleep, and breathe. :-)
Even with all of that... It is good to be home, under these endless blue skies, simply being present with people.
See the People,

Jackson, MS!
Hey Ya'll!
Wow, Field Ed Summer 2008 has started and I must admit that it has started with a bang. My placement is in Jackson, Ms. at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church. For those of you who do not know, this is the church where the Rev. Dr. Connie and Joey Shelton are C0 Senior Pastors. Needless to say, my time thus far has very busy! I have found out that my internship will consist of me shadowing each staff member. It will be a chance for me to hang out with the janitorial staff, do youth ministry, hang out with our homeless brothers and sisters that find respite within the walls of the church, go on hospital visits, write liturgy (scary, I know!), and spend a week in within the Jackson area working with youth groups all over the state of mississippi in the MissionFest that Galloway sponsors. It seems a bit overwhelming, but I am very excited what God has in store. I am also very excited to hear what God has in store from each of you!
Grace and Peace
